Is Lyme disease an autoimmune disease?

Lyme disease certainly turns on the immune system. The immune system is overactive, the adrenaline seems to be up, cytokines are high, and so it mimics an autoimmune disease. The doctor has the challenge of figuring out what is causing the patient’s illness. Is it truly an autoimmune disease or is it Lyme pushing the immune system? It feels the same to you as a patient.
