LYME DISEASE Q & A VIDEO SERIES

What is a Lyme literate doctor?

ANSWER:

There are efforts to try to identify which doctors seem to have the most experience treating Lyme disease and treating co-infections. Since there isn’t a formal specialty yet in Lyme disease, doctors who treat Lyme disease regularly are referred to as “Lyme-literate” doctors. These doctors are comfortable in treating people who don’t have the typical bull’s-eye rash or who don’t have a positive test or who are still sick after 21 days. These doctors are comfortable using clinical judgement to make a diagnosis.
