Lyme Disease Science Conversation with Dr. Natalie Cherry
Dr. Natalie Cherry serves as Research Scientist and Laboratory Supervisor at Galaxy Diagnostics, Inc. where she leads research projects on Bartonella and oversees clinical diagnostic services on a day-to-day basis. Dr. Cherry studies a number of vector-borne bacteria though her primary focus is on the ecological diversity and potential clinical impact of Bartonella infection across animal species, including humans. She has nine currently published manuscripts in top medical journals, including the Journal of Veterinary Internal Medicine, the Journal of Clinical Microbiology, and Emerging Infectious Diseases.
Dr. Cherry recently completed a Ph.D. in Comparative Biomedical Sciences with a concentration in Infectious Diseases and minor in Biotechnology from NC State University, where she trained under the guidance of Dr. Edward Breitschwerdt, a highly-regarded veterinary internist and medical researcher in the field of vector-borne diseases. Dr. Cherry earned the Leroy Coggins graduate fellowship award for outstanding research in the field of Infectious Diseases.
She has presented at local, national, and international conferences on Bartonella and Rickettsial diseases and is currently a member of the American Society of Microbiology.
